West Penn Alpacas HOST FARM

West Penn Alpacas West Penn Alpacas

West Penn Alpacas - Todd & Debbie Hirt - Claysville, PA Email Farm / Website

In the fall of 1996, a young couple just out of college decided to take a chance of a lifetime. In the first nine years, Todd and Debbie Hirt have grown their initial herd of eight Suri alpacas to over 90 Suris and huacayas and two children, Alexis and Wyatt!  With 2006 marking the 10-year anniversary of West Penn alpacas, some major changes have been made in their herd.  First of which was the sale of their entire Suri herd to Alpaca Jacks! It wasn’t an easy decision, but a necessary one.  It has allowed West Penn alpacas to grow their Huacaya breeding program with leaps and bounds, adding some of the most sought after bloodlines.  The second exciting change was the addition of North Penn Alpacas, located in Corry, Pa.( just outside of Erie)  North Penn Alpacas is owned by Debbie’s Sister and family, Robyn and Steve LaSalvia.  North Penn also specializes in top quality , elite huacayas.  West Penn and North Penn have their own alpacas and also co-own many together.    One of their partnered alpacas is the Herdsire”Snowmass White Gold”.  A full Accoyo Legacy Son purchased at the 2006 Snowmass Auction.

West Penn alpacas is located on 57 acres in the rolling hills of southwestern Pennsylvania.  The farm consists of the original farmhouse and barn that dates back to the early 1800’s.  The construction of three more barns an office, fiber room, Vet room and a new house were all added with the growing demands of the herd and family.   In February of 2007 a farm manager was hired.  West Penn  welcomed Damon Doncals to help oversee the day-to-day activates on the farm. Todd and Debbie take pride in the breeding program that West Penn Alpacas have been utilizing.  Their alpacas have done well in the show ring resulting in many top awards.  West Penn Alpacas are very active in the alpaca community.  They are members of the following organizations:  The Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, The Alpaca Registry, Pennsylvania Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, The Alpaca Elite and The North American Fiber Cooperative.

West Penn is home to some elite Huacayas with the most sought after bloodlines.  If you are looking to advance your breeding program take a closer look at what they have to offer.  Some of their top males include Snowmass White Gold, a full Accoyo Legacy son.  Mint D’Or, a multiple champion out of El Nino.  And Magnum Gold, a multiple champion out of Altiplano Gold.

West Penn Alpacas really is a family run business.  When you see Todd and Debbie at the shows, you also see Lexi and Wyatt,  Debbie’s parent(Billie and Dave), her grandma(Cora), and her aunts(Sally and Peggy).  And now you will see her sister and family(Robyn, Steve, and Hunter).  Debbie’s dad, Dave,  also helps out on the farm with everything from Vet visits to barn building to hay making and everything in between!  Having the family so close really does make raising alpacas all the more special!
