Grand River Alpaca Farm, owned by George and Mary Hodson, was established in 1998. Situated on 12 acres in Northeast Ohio just 50 miles east of Cleveland, Grand River Alpaca Farm is home to more than 50 huacaya alpacas. From the beginning we chose to not follow the prevailing marketing hype based on country of origin. We searched for the best quality black and gray alpacas matching our expectations for phenotype as close as possible.  As a result our bloodlines are very diverse consisting of top quality Chilean, Bolivian, and Peruvian lineage. Using the best of all worlds we have been able to greatly improve our colored fleece quality while creating very hearty and healthy alpacas.

The cornerstone of our breeding program is our true black herdsire, Dark Shaddow, who won the prestigious Reserve Herdsire of the Year in 2006 and whose offspring have won 40 championship awards. In 2006, we added Crescent Moon’s Velocity, who won the Black Reserve Color Champion at the 2006 Futurity. Grand River Alpaca Farm will be able to further the quality of the next generation of black & gray alpacas to keep up with the ever growing demands of the industry.
