Alpacas of the Alleghenies

Dr. Bert and Mary Altmanshofer - Duncansville, PA

Quality Service and Quality Genetics Email Farm

In 2002 Dr. Bert and Mary Altmanshofer purchased part of an old dairy farm and built their new home in Duncansville, Pennsylvania where they live with their daughters, Kate and Emily. Dr. Bert, when not practicing Podiatric Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, began to restore the pastures. Mary, a retired Healthcare Administrator spent countless hours-researching alpacas and developing a business plan. Bert, Mary, Kate and Emily were about to begin living the alpaca lifestyle.

September 2003, Mary and Bert purchased their first alpacas. With judicious purchases and the advise from some of the best known breeders in the alpaca business, Bert and Mary have developed an outstanding herd of fifty plus Huacaya alpacas of Accoyo and Peruvian decent. They have carefully chosen breeding service from leading alpaca ranches in the Eastern United States to create their core herd.

Setting in the meadow edge in the Allegheny Ridges of Central Pennsylvania, Bert and Mary with their daughters care for their herd on twenty pristine areas. With the many amenities of a state of the art barn, Alpacas of the Alleghenies has hosted community educational sessions. All of the alpacas at Alpacas of the Alleghenies are treated with the highest standards of care and accepted practices of the alpaca industry.

The farm was completed with the addition of their Great Pyreness livestock guard dogs, Max and Molly.
